can show Mason some grace and show other potential candidates that he's willing to give someone a chance. If the club struggles next season Whit has 3.5 million in facility upgrades and a commitment to baseball to show potential candidates. Plus, as you stated he'll have a year to survey the college baseball landscape and find the right fit as he did with Buzz and Fuente. Not to mention he may also have some time to get some donors to pony some extra money to make another big hire. It's not the politically expedient move but it's certainly the strategic move.
